BlueEye BP5000 is a powerbank with 2 built-in cables: micro-USB and lightning. We can use it to charge an iPhone and an Android phone without having to bring any cable when traveling. As the name suggests, this battery has 5000 mAh capacity, good enough for most modern phones and tablets. Its form factor is very compact and lightweight, with dimensions of 133 x 65.5 x 7.8 mm and 78 gr of weight. This dimensions feels perfect when I was holding it together with my iPhone 6 because it’s about the same size and not too thick. The built-in lightning cable goes directly to my iPhone’s charging port without the extra burden of managing long cable.
Having built-in cables has its pro and cons. It’s good because we don’t have to carry an extra cable. It’s not good because 3.5 cm cable is really not much. We can basically use it when the battery is being held together with the phone being charged. There is no USB port for us to use our own cable. Understandable because of its thin form-factor, but for some people, it will limit its usefulness.
Based on my test, the micro-USB and lightning cables can be used simultaneously. This means, we can charge an iPhone and an Android phone (or basically any other gadget with micro-USB port) at the same time. Which is quite handy.
There is one button to start charging. However, due to extremely poor design, this button is placed on the side and it’s very prone to get accidentally pressed. Even worse, light press on the button while the battery is charging my phone actually stops the charging immediately. As a result, I can’t just put both the battery connected to my phone in my pocket and expect it to continue charging. More than half the time, it stopped charging when I pick up my phone again because the button got pressed at some point in my pocket.
Overall, I quite like this battery . If it’s not because of the annoying button, this would easily be my new main battery. Unfortunately, with the major design issue, this battery now stays inside my drawer for occasional use at home, in a location without any accidental button pressing.
