kingston-mobilelite-g3

After upgrading my computer to a newer model with USB 3.0 ports, I enjoyed faster speed in most of my file transfer activities. However, transferring files from SD card still takes a long time. Then I realize that my old card reader is still limited to USB 2.0 speed.

I bought this Kingston MobileLite G3 from eBay for $17. It supports multiple memory cards from SD/SDHC/SDXC, microSD/SDHC/SDXC and MSPD. I like the design. It doesn’t have “cable part” since the USB port is direct attached to its body. When not used, both its left and right “wings” can be extended to protect the USB port and the card slots.

Of course, having a card reader with USB 3.0 doesn’t automatically speed up your file transfer. You still need memory card with high speed, and a computer with USB 3.0 port. Attaching this reader to computer with only USB 2.0 ports will get the speed limited to USB 2.0 specification. Using a low-speed memory card will limit the speed to whatever the card can deliver.
