A good working computer will make our days easier with less frustration. When opportunity allowed me to choose my next working laptop, I did a lot of reading before finally decided to get Dell Vostro 15 7510. It has similar look and feel to my previous Dell Inspiron 15 5510, but with far more powerful components inside. Plus its dark colour looks a bit cooler, in my opinion.

Let’s start with some technical. My model has 11th gen Intel Core i7-11800H @ 2.30GHz (up to 4.6 GHz, 24MB Cache, 8 cores) as its brain. It comes with 16 GB DDR4, 3200MHz memory, 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 4GB GDDR6.

For display, it has 15.6″ 300nits screen with Full HD resolution, Windows 10 Pro that can be upgraded to Windows 11 any time we feel like it. For me, I will wait a bit more before jumping to Windows 11 regardless what Microsoft wants. No touch screen because the variant with touch screen adds unnecessary weight and I rarely use it for a laptop.

Since I would never need to run any game in this machine anyway, so far every app I need runs quite smoothly. That includes running 4 windows of Chrome with different profiles, each opening more than 15 tabs. It is not the best habit, I know, but it gets jobs done. Before anyone asks, I know that having GeForce RTX 3050 Ti for a machine that will never run game is a bit overkill, but hey, it is better to have more than less.

Back to display, I realise that 1920×1010 resolution in 2022 is far from impressive. However, it works well for a 15.6″ screen and since I am going to use external monitor as my main display, the laptop makes a good secondary screen.

I do not like carrying dongles. Part of my criteria in selecting work laptop is the built-in ports. Dell Vostro 15 7510 comes with USB C, USB-A, HDMI ports and barrel-style charging connector on the left side; USB-A port, SD card reader and 3.5mm jack on the right. There is fingerprint scanner integrated to the power button, I find this quite handy. It helps to login faster. I have separate accounts for work and personal in this laptop and I register different fingers to quickly use an account.

The keyboard feels nice and allows me my usual typing speed, which is not super fast to begin with. There is numeric pad on the right side, it helps a lot in doing my work with spreadsheets. The dedicated button to start calculator app is a nice gimmick. I did not think much when I see it the first time, but now I find myself trying to find that button when working with my desktop computer.

This laptop can be charged using its included charger (using barrel-style charging connector), or it can be charged from the USB-C port. I find the USB-C charging very useful when using this laptop while travelling. When doing heavy work, Dell Vostro 15 7510 can be somewhat warm and noisy thanks to the fan kicking in. So far, it is never to a point that caused me worry.

Solid experience so far. Hope to use this laptop as my main productivity machine for the next few years.
