Jabra Speak 510+ is a speaker-phone for better video call experience. It can connect to a computer via Bluetooth or using the built-in USB cable. The 510+ UC model comes with Jabra Link 370 Wireless USB adapter while the standard 510 model does not. This USB adapter allows configuration-free wireless connectivity (no need to worry about Bluetooth pairing) and better control integration with some popular video conferencing software, such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

My Bose NC700 serves me well in some use cases where I need to focus on my video call without any external sound. My Jabra Evolve 75e is good for when I need to work somewhere else because it is compact enough to fit in my backpack. I got this new accessory for times when I need to join a video call without something on my ears, or when I work from home and need to look after my kids in parallel (uncovered ears let me hear if they need any help).

Initial set up involves installing Jabra Direct app to update firmware to the latest version. I personally do not like to use Bluetooth because I like to swap between multiple computers and Bluetooth pairing can be annoying sometimes. Using the Jabra Link dongle was my initial plan because it allows better control integration with Microsoft Teams, and it does. Wireless connectivity using the USB dongle is quite stable. I only tested the Bluetooth connection once, it did not have obvious problem but I cannot say for sure. Soon I found it troublesome to add yet another thing that I need to remember to charge. So I end up using the built-in USB cable as my favourite method (no need to recharge).

Some touch-sensitive controls are placed at the top: power, volume up, volume down, mute, Bluetooth, call, pause, end/reject call. There is also power indicator, battery level indicator, Bluetooth indicator and a few LEDs indicating volume level, which will turn all red when the unit is muted. I find this very useful to always know when I’m on mute.

Omni-directional microphone helps to pick up my voice during meetings. According to some colleagues, it helps my voice to sound better than when I use the built-in microphone from my laptop. This speaker-phone also deliver clear audio, enabling the better overall meeting experience. I kind of wish it has a stand like Speak 710 model, but the price difference makes it easy for me to accept the lack of feature.

Solid build, great sound quality, stable connectivity. Overall I think Jabra Speak 510+ is an excellent device to improve WFH experience.
