Fitbit Flex 2 is the smallest step tracker currently offered by Fitbit. By smallest, I mean the size of actual tracking unit, excluding the band and other accessories. Thanks to its discreet size, this tracker is customisable with some accessories, from gold pendant to silver bangle. There are even some designer collection accessories from Tory Burch, offering double wrap and metal hinged bracelets.
Feature-wise, Fitbit Flex 2 is capable to count our daily steps, automatically recognise excercise, track our sleep, give us reminders to move, and send us selected notifications from our phone. Thanks to its removable design, we can take Flex 2 main unit and use it with different accessories, allowing different ways to wear this tracker. The main unit of Flex 2 only has 5 tiny LEDs instead of proper display, it is waterproof and can last up to 5 days with a full charge. In the box, Fibit includes both small and large band. This could be either a good thing, or a bad one, because one of those bands will definitely get left unused.
The usage experience is not far from most other Fitbit products. The band does not cause any discomfort on my wrist. The compact size of the band makes it easy to forget that I’m actually wearing a fitness tracker. The 5 tiny LEDs are easy to see for step counting. However, for everything else, they’re not very useful. Notifications with only blinking light showing doesn’t tell me much. Plus having to remember what a color means is rather counter-intuitive.
It is nice that sleep tracking works without the need to press any button or to do any taps. I got a bit disappointed with the fact that this tracker does not detect stairs climbed. I guess that’s a compromise they have to make for a waterproof product. Fitbit charger always frustrates me. This one is no different. Fitbit Flex 2 uses yet another unique charger that’s only usable with this model. They really really need to figure out better standard to charge their trackers.
Overall, Fitbit Flex 2 is a decent product. Nothing particularly good about it, but also nothing particularly bad. It works well as step tracker and offer various ways of wearing for people who cares. I would not get this tracker for myself at its retail price.
