Logitech Z600 is a Bluetooth speaker designed for laptops or desktop computers. The design is clean and sleek, the Bluetooth connection is solid and the build quality is something worth praising.
More than just ordinary speakers, Z600 has cool features that set it different from most other desktop speakers. There is no button to adjust the volume. Instead of using buttons, we use the top surface of the right unit to adjust the volume. Circling finger gesture clockwise will turn up the volume, and vise versa. The power switch still uses physical button, though it’s nicely designed with tactile feedback. Near the power button, we can also find the Bluetooth pairing button and 3.5 mm aux input, making it compatible with virtually almost every audio device in the market today.
Logitech Z600 features flat cables. Cables from the two units merged into one point using a unique connector, and the power supply is plugged directly to the joint. This may not produce significant impact on functionality, but certainly looks good.
For wireless connectivity, Z600 can connect to 3 devices at the same time. So we can connect it to our computer, smartphone, tablet or any other devices in any combination. It also comes with Bluetooth dongle for older computers without built-in Bluetooth connectivity.
When we power on the speakers, it will automatically play a specific melody. A different melody will also play when we press the Bluetooth button into pairing mode, and when we power off the speakers. Again, this won’t add much to its core functionality, but I always love this little extra.
The sound quality of Z600 is not bad. It is especially sound good in low to medium volume level, making it an ideal product for personal work environment. The mid-range is clear. The treble is enjoyable. The bass is fairly decent, even though strong bass lovers will quickly find it lacking. To my personal liking, these speakers sound better for playing movies. Casual music listening is okay too, but it’s probably not the right speaker for loud party because the sound quality is rather unsatisfying in higher volume.
Perhaps, the only bad thing about these speakers is the price tag. Logitech Australia website lists $199 (AUD) as the official price. While these speakers are not bad, the quality is certainly not in the $199 price range. Dick Smith has it on promo for $148, which is still too expensive for my judgement. Officeworks sells them for $80, a more “proper” price. But luckily my wife and I found these speakers on Officeworks’ sale basket when we went to buy new ADSL model few days ago, and she quickly decided to get these speakers when she heard the $45 sale price. Bluetooth speakers with decent audio, awesome design, solid build quality and more than 75% discount (from the official price)… there is little to complain about.
