philips-shb7000

Philips SHB7000 is a Bluetooth stereo over-ear headset that can also be used in wired mode. According to Philips, it has 20-20,000 Hz frequency range, 103 dB sensitivity and 40 mm neodymium drivers. This nice headset comes with rechargeable battery capable of 200 hours of standby time, 9 hours play time with up to 15 m range. The Bluetooth 3.0 supports HSP, HFP, A2DP and AVRCP.

I personally like Philips SHB700 design because it looks simple and clean. The build quality feels solid, but the plastic finish on both headsets makes it look less desirable. The right side unit has the power button which double as pause/play and call receive button. Right next to it we can see a slider button to skip track, go previous, or adjust the volume. Still on the right side, we can also find the built-in mic, a micro-USB port to charge the battery and 3.5mm connector to use this headset in wired mode. There is no button on the left side.

Sound quality of this headset is not bad for its price ($29). I didn’t buy this product, but I happened to have few hours to test it when someone I know bought this.

The bass of Philips SHB7000 is noticeably powerful, but it makes the overall music listening experience loses the high frequency details. Certainly enjoyable for those moments when we simply want to hear something loud and strong, but this headset is not the one to use when we want to hear some quality sound without missing any detail.

Bluetooth connectivity is stable. The process of initial pairing is easy but not very intuitive (I need to read the manual to figure out that I need to press the power button for many seconds).

The built-in mic allows us to use this headset to make and receive phone calls. The quality is not what I would expect, but still usable.

Comfort level is another issue I experienced. For 10-15 minutes of music listening, there is no problem at all. But starting from 30 minutes above, I started to feel some discomfort because this headset unit is rather tight on our head. I felt like my head was pressed from both sides.

Overall, this is still a very reasonable quality for a branded Bluetooth over-ear headset under $30. If you’re looking to have a cheap headset for casual music listening, this might worth to consider.
