Logitech M950T Performance MX is a wireless mouse that I use at work. It’s a pretty comfortable mouse with few extra buttons that has proven themselves to enable faster work, at least for me. Having said these, I never really liked installing additional software to run a mouse (Logitech Control Center for Mac and Logitech SetPoint for Windows). They often buggy, especially with latest version of Mac OS X. So I always try to find ways to customise the mouse buttons without having to install any additional software.
Usually I only need few extra features to work faster using a mouse. One, I need mouse wheel with 4 directions scrolling and this mouse has this feature running well without I had to do anything. Next, I need a quick way to view all windows in active application (usually has ^ ↓ keyboard shortcuts). Sure we can assign any mouse button to any feature by installing Logitech software. But we can also do this from Settings app, choose Mission Control.
There, you can see the option to assign mouse buttons to show Mission Control and/or application windows. I didn’t touch the zoom button and two arrows in M950T because they can be useful sometimes. So all I did was assigning Mouse Button 3 (pressing the scroll) to Mission Control and Mouse Button 6 (the button below our thumb) to Application windows.
It’s probably worth to note that Logitech should do something to make their products have consistent experience. I have Logitech M905 at home. Pressing the scroll toggles between normal scrolling and hyper-fast scrolling. Pressing the button next to scroll triggers whatever function is assigned to Mouse Button 3. Now with this M950T, pressing the scroll actually triggers Mouse Button 3 and pressing the button next to scroll toggles normal and hyper-fast scrolling. Totally the opposite experience. I use M950T at work, M905 at home and I kept pressing the wrong button in the first few days of using them.
Other than that, M950T is a decent wireless mouse from Logitech. It uses the standard unifying receiver, can be used on virtually any surface thanks to Darkfield Laser Tracking technology, has hyper-fast scrolling, has 4 thumb buttons and the battery is rechargeable using micro-USB cable. The battery depletes too fast for my liking, but luckily I can still use the mouse while charging it (looks ugly and no longer “wireless” though).
