Bose SoundTrue Ultra in-ear headphones is Bose’s latest offering for everyday listening claimed to be the smallest headphones ever from the brand. I first got interested in these headphones after reading some really good reviews about them. Indeed they look sleek. If such design is combined with good sound and superb comfort, this could be my ultimate everyday headphones, or so I thought when I decided to get them.

As usual I end up getting yet another headphones even I already have more than I need. However, at least I don’t pay money for this one. I exchanged this with reward points that I earned from joining a new credit card. So it’s almost like a free joining gift for me.

SoundTrue Ultra comes with a basic carrying case that is good enough for casual usage. There are 3 options for the cable: Apple version, Android version and audio only version (no mic and remote). Of course, I am getting Apple version. Bose’s ear tips are one of the most comfortable I’ve ever used, this model is no exception. It uses SoundTrue Ultra tips that are comfortable and somewhat effective as basic noise isolation. The T-styled split on the cable looks good in theory, but soon becomes a burden when I need to quickly put it inside the carrying case. Haven’t figured out the fastest way to fold it and I always worry that I would end up damaging the cable.

Sound quality is where these come strong. I love it so far. It packs powerful bass, yet not overwhelming (do not expect Beats’ level of bass). I delivers detailed high notes and still has realistic middle range. It does a bit of grandeur effect to some songs, which I like, but not what audio purist will prefer. Some reviews mention about feedback sound from the cable moving against our clothes. I can confirm that I do hear such feedback when I actually put some effort to pay attention to it, yet it never came as anything annoying or disturbing in my normal usage.

Overall, Bose SoundTrue Ultra is a nice product with slightly expensive price. If it’s not from the reward point, I probably won’t be able to justify the spending. Once we can ignore any issue with its price point, we can spend more energy to enjoy a nice mix of comfort and good audio quality.
