I like to have screen protector attached to my mobile devices. So when I got Pebble smart watch, I also ordered some screen protectors to protect my favorite smart watch from scratches.
My first screen protector for Pebble disappeared only within few days of usage. I guess it got peeled off somewhere because of my movements. When I got home, I realized that my Pebble is no longer protected.
My second screen protector survived a bit longer, about a month. Then it almost got peeled off too, but luckily I realized that before I lost it. So I can still reattach the screen protector, and it lasted another month.
After two failures, I wondered what’s wrong. I never had screen protector got peeled off in any of my smartphones or tablets. Then I realized it’s all because Pebble’s screen is curved, not flat. Both my previous screen protectors are a bit stiff, so it tends to “return” to flat form, leaving the curved screen.
Then I tried this screen protector from Skinomi. Different from “ordinary” screen protectors, Skinomi is applied using the help of liquid. What we got from our purchase is the screen protector itself, plus a small spray bottle of solution.
Applying Skinomi screen protector was a new experience for me. We needed to wet our fingers with the solution. They must remain wet throughout the process of installation. We also need to spray the solution on both side of the screen protector. Instead of having to carefully place the screen protector to the precise location, we can put in on the screen surface and readjust the position since it’s wet. Once it dries up, the inner side of the screen protector becomes sticky and firmly holds its position. Now I finally have a screen protector for my Pebble smart watch that will always stay with the watch.
My Skinomi screen protector package contains complete pieces to protect the Pebble from any direction. So I have the parts for front-screen, back-side, buttons and even the small details on the side. Since it was my first experiment, I decided to attach the back-side first, thinking I can just remove it if things go wrong.
And yes, things did go wrong. I followed every step of installation carefully, but there are few things not mentioned there. First, the screen protector pieces come attached to a piece of soft-paper. It was NOT easy to separate the screen protector from the paper because it’s super sticky. Next, the solution dries up quickly, so I need to use the spray bottle couple of times to keep my fingers wet.
Then it comes the next problem. I didn’t put enough solution on the sticky side of the screen protector. So when I first put it on my Pebble (thinking I can readjust the position), it can’t. It immediately sticks and holds strong, in wrong position. I tried to remove it forcibly, then reapply the solution. It works, but I think I made some damages on the screen protector in the process. The second attempt was better, I managed to put the screen protector on the right position. I felt confident enough to start doing the main part: the piece for the main display.
I put extra amount of solution on the sticky part of the screen protector. This time, it worked. I can freely adjust the position. But since it was too wet, I need to wait for few minutes before it dried a little bit and started holding its position (otherwise it kept moving).
The screen protector looked ugly when it first got installed. But according to the guide, all the liquid and imperfection will disappear within 2-3 days so I waited. Without doing anything, today my Pebble is protected by a strong screen protector and I barely notice there’s anything on the screen. It’s fully transparent as promised. Perfect screen protector for my Pebble !
