Apple Watch comes with a magnetic charging cable. It is functional, yet it is not the most convenient way to charge our Apple Watch. The magnet is not as strong as what I imagined it to be, it is rather easy for the charging process to get interrupted, especially with a curious toddler in the house. Another challenge is that this default charging cable requires us to lay our watch in flat position, some types of watch bands would make it difficult for flat charging position.
After a bit of searching, my choice of charging dock goes to Apple’s own magnetic charging dock. It is a very simple dock, just a circle-shaped pad with magnetic charging unit in the centre, we can move it to charge our Apple Watch in flat position, or on its side. The pad is made of some soft material that will not cause any damage to our expensive gadget. It is reasonably heavy that I could detach my Apple Watch with a single hand without touching the charging dock.
I like how this charging pad gives the very Apple-like look and feel. It is simple, it works and it looks great. This charger comes with 2m Apple lightning cable, which is another plus point of this charging dock: it works with lightning connector. It means, I could easily carry this dock and use the lightning cable I always have in my bags. That’s something I would prefer to do, compared to bringing yet another set of charging cable.
A very nice gesture would be for Apple to include this charging dock with every unit of Apple Watch. Too bad it’s only included in some more expensive models.
