One of my main concern using Apple Watch is battery life. It seems to survive alright through the day when I don’t use any app that tracks location for too long. Some apps, for example Apple’s own Workout app would drain battery noticeably when we use it to track outdoor run or outdoor walk because it continuously track our location and heart rate. This could be a problem when we need to survive long day outside.
Sure I can just bring Apple Watch charging cable. However, its form factor is not the most portable and I still need the power source.
After searching, I found out that there are a few power bank products with built-in magnetic connector for Apple Watch. I settled with this compact product from Oittm. It’s small, it’s super portable, it comes with built-in link so we can use it as keychain, or attach it to our current one.
With its 700 mAh power, this is not the biggest power bank out there. It’s enough to charge Apple Watch to survive 1.5 charges, and that’s probably more than what we need until we reach a location where we can do proper charging. This battery is recharged using micro USB cable. If you need bigger capacity, Oittm also have another model with 5000 mAh battery, but it’s clearly not keychain-sized.
This power bank works pretty well. Even though admittedly I have not encounter any real-usage occasion when I desperately need to use this. My Apple Watch battery seems to serve me well so far, always surviving my whole daytime with sufficient power remaining when I put it back to charger every night. Well, it’s best to have a backup plan.
