linearflux-lithiumcard-1

Another product of super portable backup battery for our devices. This time is an Indiegogo project: LithiumCard from LinearFlux. It is a powerbank at the size of credit card with built in cable. Or, to be precise, it’s about 5 credit cards stacked together. It is available in lightning connector or micro USB.

There are few strong points of this product. First, the super compact size. Second, the built-in cable is reinforced, strong enough to handle up to 1 kg weight. Third, it comes with something called nanostick. Basically it is something sticky that can be removed without damaging any surface and leave no residue. We can use the nanostick to stick the LithiumCard at the back of our phone, so we can use our phone (almost) normally while charging. This is a brilliant idea since my usual problem is putting my iPhone plus portable charger in my pocket while charging and using the phone. If you don’t like the idea of sticking this item on the back of your phone, you can completely ignore the nanostick (it detaches easily).

The one I ordered is the model with lightning connector. They have combinations of colors, I choose silver with black accents, which I think looks very nice. If you want, they even have model with 18K real gold.

The battery capacity is rather small for a portable charger: 1200 mAh. But it’s considered big for a portable charger at this size. The idea is not about a backup battery that can be used multiple times. It’s about a battery that is also used as a charging cable when we have wall outlet. So when we charge our phone, we charge LithiumCard simultaneously. With this concept, we should not have the experience of carrying a backup battery, only to find out it’s empty when we need it the most.

One minor issue to point out is the packaging. I ordered the model with lightning connector and received the correct one. However, the packaging seems to write “micro USB” then they put a revision on top of it. It doesn’t look professional. But I guess it doesn’t affect the performance of the product itself.

Few weeks ago I reviewed similar product called JUMP cable. After trying and using both. I must say I prefer to use LithiumCard for various reasons. The most important reason is how easy I feel to use LithiumCard. No hassle and it charges my phone quickly. JUMP card is thicker, and the cable takes more effort to detach. After using, JUMP cable still needs more of my time to realign the cable again into the tight housing. Lastly, the battery capacity of JUMP cable is “only” 800 mAh, compared to LithiumCard’s 1200 mAh. If I only have either one, I would definitely feel happy of having super compact backup battery. But since I have both, I guess I will end up using LithiumCard more often.

Another minor annoyance for me is the nanostick. It is indeed useful, but where should I put it when not in use? It’s sticky and I can’t just throw it into my bag or purse. They should have planned something for this.

Overall, it’s not perfect but I can firmly say I like this product. I consider this a happy purchase and would not hesitate to recommend this product to other people.
