I do not consider myself as headphones collector. I feel that I have enough headphones for all listening situations that I can think of. I have heard a lot of good things about Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear Headphones, yet I did not have any plan to purchase yet another pair of headphones. That was until I saw a very good bargain few weeks ago. Normally, these headphones would sell on $299 retail price here in Australia (all $ prices in this post are AUD). Some stores offered $139 price occasionally, but only for the red model. I got a very good price offer for $89 including delivery cost. For a quick reference, as per today, AUD 89 is around USD 69. So I tried hard to “justify” the urge to buy something I do not really need.

Simply said, I lost the battle. I decided to get a pair of Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear Headphones and soon I do not regret my decision.

sennheiser-momentum-on-ear-headphones-02Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear Headphones comes in a nice-looking box. Inside the box are the headphones themselves, a hard carrying case and two audio cables. Why two cables? One cable is just a plain cable, the other one has remote with play/pause, volume up and volume down button designed to work with Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod). The hard carrying case looks great, but the material does not seem to be the kind that will endure rough treatment. Well, it is nice to have it included, but I do not think I would use the case frequently.

Now let us get to the main point: the headphones. Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear Headphones have a unique design with retro-look. I really love how it looks. I have used these headphones for more than a week now and I feel they are reasonably comfortable. Not as comfy as my previous Bose SoundTrue On-Ear Headphones, but certainly more than comfortable for everyday use.

Sound quality is an area where these headphones really shine. Music sounds amazing in these headphones. The high notes are crisp and detailed, but not too sharp. The mids are clear and enjoyable. The bass is solid with a bit of punch. Still not as strong as Beats, but I guess not everyone likes Beats’ level of bass punch. When I close my eyes while listening some songs, I can clearly envision being in the middle of those people singing the song and playing the instruments. I can feel where each instrument are, and that is simply fantastic.

Another test using these headphones to watch movie gave different experience. It still sounds good, but for movie I still prefer my Sony MDR-10RBT. So these Sennheiser headphones will become my music headphones, not movie headphones.

There is not much noise isolation with these headphones. When the music volume is not too loud, I can still hear my surroundings. This could be a good thing when we wear these headphones outdoor in locations where we need to stay alert. However, people around us will also easily hear the music that we play. And I do not like it. So I guess I will keep these headphones for private use most of the time.

The cable quality is great. Since there are two included cables, I need to test them both so I can claim warranty in case one of the does not work properly. I had a little trouble in changing the cable initially. Could not figure out how to detach the cable from the headphones. Apparently it needs a little twist movement before we can pull it out. Yes they do have it in their quick guide, but I still feel that it should have been more intuitive though.

Overall this is an interesting purchase. Definitely a good product and decided I will keep it at least for the next few months. Then I shall decide whether this will join my long-term audio accessories or not.
