Home button in iPhone and iPad is a physical (mechanical) button. Some people worries that frequently using Home button will shorten its lifetime. Personally I use my iPhones for 2 years before selling it. I have used first gen iPad for 3 years and the button is still doing fine. However people might have different usage pattern. So if you do feel the need to minimize using your Home button, here’s a simple trick how to do that.

First, go to Settings > General > Accessibility. Next find a switch called “Assistive Touch” under Physical & Motor category. Turn on that switch, and you will see a virtual button floating on iPhone screen. You can move it around to any comfortable location by dragging it. It will go dimmed when not used. Pressing that virtual button will show on-screen menu where you can emulate the pressing of Home button without pressing the mechanical button.

That’s it ! Hope it’s useful for you.
