I purchased this Sony DSC-TX5 camera 3 years ago and it has been my favorite camera so far. After 3 years of intensive usage, more than 12,000 images, more than 50 videos, 6 countries, water splashes, freezing temperature, countless heatwaves and many other challenges, I’m proud to say that this camera remains my favorite.

This post is not about a complete review of this camera. I already wrote my review back in 2011. Feel free to read my review on this fantastic camera.

I rarely use the video. I found that my iPhone 5S produces better video than TX5. However, for still images, this is still my go-to device for its true portability.

If there’s anything I feel lacking from this camera, it’s the optical zoom. In several occasions I wished I brought a camera with better optical zoom with me. But that’s not this camera’s fault, because optical zoom was never its main selling point.

Right now I’m in the market for a new pocket camera. Not because there’s any problem with my TX5 (it’s still running strong) but because my wife wants 2 pocket cameras so we can use one each. If Sony is going to make a pocket camera with similar compact size and front cover sliding, but adding WiFi and GPS, it will definitely become my choice. However, since no such model exists, I guess I’ll have to look around.
